Location, Location
The Macaw Lodge Costa Rica, situated near the Carara National Park not far from the Tarcoles Bridge. If you visit the Macaw Lodge you will be amazed at the properties location. Costa Rica is beautiful as it is but they have sculpted the area to be unique for birders and nature lovers. The Lodge was purchased in the 1980’s and open in 2011. On the location are several cabins off of the main lodge and a gorgeous lake in front. This gives hotel guest great views when they want to sit down and relax.

The Lodge’s surrounded by two forested zones. This provides Birders with over 300 different species to accumulate in pictures and their lists. Walk through pristine trails and see many different birds. For example, ones like the Scarlet Macaw’s, Toucans, Sunbittern, Northern Jacana, and so much more. Activities
Other than Birding or Birdwatching, you can sit back and enjoy yourself. The Lodge is in a very remote area so you won’t find restaurants or shopping malls. Although on the property they have a talented chef and restaurant to quench your thirst and hunger. Experience some of Costa Rica’s signature dishes. Also, take part in the yoga classes available. There are two different yoga platforms to help get back to nature. You will be surrounded by bamboo forests and all the sounds that come with it. You might like the Macaw Kakau tour offered. Dive into the art of making chocolate right from the cocoa plant. The tour’s roughly 2 hours long, at a cost of 25 dollars per person, and 38 dollars with lunch included.
Sustainability
The Lodge is a leader for sustainable tourism. It points to a new direction for the conservation of our environment. Firstly, the Macaw lodge Costa Rica is 100 Percent of the grid and power usage is from solar panels. Secondly, water comes from the properties natural spring, filtered without bad chemicals. Thirdly, they contain sewage in a closed loop and cycle it back to a bio-digester. Lastly, they try their best to conserve with LED light bulbs, low flush toilets, and low voltage fans. Then there is the onsite farm they use to grow fruits and vegetables, all food for the restaurant is yielded from the farm.
Things to do in the area
If you’re looking to extend your trip a bit, there are some great options for traveling around the region. For example, The Carara National Park, adding to the species at the lodge you will find many animals and plants on the walking trails of Carara. You can also, check out Tarcoles bridge or crocodile bridge on the way to your lodging. Look 15 meters below and see the ancient beasts wading in the water.
