Hotel Sugar Beach sits right on Playa Pan de Azúcar, a sheltered cove of light sand on the northern Pacific coast of Guanacaste, with dry tropical forest on the hills around it. It suits families and couples who want a quiet beach of their own, calm water and sunsets over the ocean.

Iguanas lie still in the sun, monkeys chatter in the trees and the birds start early. It is that kind of place.

Rooms and views

The rooms look toward the ocean and the gardens, each with a TV, a phone and a safe, and most with a terrace to sit out on.

For families and groups there are larger beachfront suites and villas with more space and privacy. Ask us which fits your group, and we will match the room to who is travelling.

On the property

The pool sits in the gardens near the sand, and the open-air restaurant and bar are a few steps from the beach, so lunch comes with the sea breeze. There is a shop on site for the basics.

The hotel also hosts weddings on the beach, and from here we can arrange surfing, hiking, horseback riding and snorkeling along the coast.

Location and getting there

Hotel Sugar Beach is on Playa Pan de Azúcar, on the northern Pacific coast of Guanacaste, north of Playa Flamingo. Most of our clients fly into Liberia and come with a private driver.

It works well as the beach at the end of a trip that starts at Arenal or Rincon de la Vieja.
