Epic Tamarindo is a small, new hotel in the hills above Tamarindo, at El Tuntun on the road toward Flamingo, 7 minutes by car from the town and its beach. It is two hotels in one: adults-only suites, each with a private saltwater plunge pool, and two-bedroom residences built for families, with a full kitchen and a shared pool. It suits couples who want privacy, and families who want a house with a chef.
Why we choose it
- A private pool with a waterfall. Each adults-only suite has its own saltwater plunge pool with a massaging waterfall and a sundeck, and the rainfall shower opens straight onto it.
- A house for the family, with the chef's breakfast. The residences are 1,300 sq ft (about 121 m2), two king bedrooms, 2.5 marble baths, a full kitchen and a washer and dryer, for up to 5 guests, and breakfast comes with the stay.
- A dozen beaches in reach. Tamarindo is 7 minutes away by car and more than 12 beaches sit within 10 to 15 minutes, so a different beach each day is the plan, and the hotel recommends a car for it.
Rooms and views
The Adults Only Suites with Private Pool are 700 sq ft (about 65 m2) for two adults: a king bed, a kitchenette, a marble bathroom with dual sinks and the pool deck on the other side of the glass. The 2-Bedroom Private Residences have mountain and water views from the hill, two king bedrooms, a twin on request for a fifth guest, 2.5 bathrooms with indoor and outdoor showers, a full kitchen and the shared saltwater pool. A bottle of sparkling wine is waiting on arrival in either.
On the property
Every pool on the property runs on salt water, with no chemicals, the hotel says. There is no restaurant in the usual sense: the kitchen is open plan, and that is where the personal chef cooks breakfast every morning for every guest, and a pre-fixe dinner on select evenings each week, by reservation. There is no spa on site; the concierge books massages nearby, along with sunset sailing, surf lessons, horseback riding and day trips into Nicaragua.
Location and getting there
The hotel is at El Tuntun, between Tamarindo and Flamingo, about 75 minutes from Liberia airport by Route 21 and Route 155 through Huacas. We arrange the private transfer from Liberia, or from San José with a longer drive, and a rental car for the beach days if you want one. Check-in is from 3:00 PM and check-out at 11:00 AM.
