Hotel Three Sixty sits nearly 1,000 feet up in the hills behind Ojochal, south of Uvita, with the coast laid out below from Manuel Antonio to the Osa Peninsula. It is adults-only, guests are 16 or older, and every villa is built for two, so this is a hotel for couples, a honeymoon or an anniversary. The main building is open to the air, and the whole place sits on a 58-acre rainforest reserve of which the hotel takes less than 8%.
Why we choose it
- The sunset from the pool. The infinity pool faces west over the Pacific with Bar 360 beside it. The hotel recommends reserving a sunset seat, and we agree.
- Couples only, by design. Guests are 16 and older and each villa sleeps two, so there is nobody else's family at the next table at Kua Kua.
- Quiet that comes from the ground. The villas sit among 720 metres of marked trails on the reserve, and the hotel works with Swarovski Optik for the bird watching.
Rooms and views
There are three kinds of villa, all with a king bed, floor-to-ceiling windows, an indoor rain shower and a private terrace. The Sunset Premium villas are the highest on the property and face straight west over the ocean. The Sunrise Premium villas take the morning light with a 200 degree sweep of coastline. The Deluxe villas are the most secluded, with a partial ocean view through the canopy. Breakfast can be brought to your terrace.
On the property
Kua Kua, the restaurant, cooks a seasonal menu from Costa Rican ingredients, ceviche, plantain gnocchi, a modern casado, looking across the canopy to the sea. The name means butterfly in the Boruca language. The spa does 90 and 120 minute treatments, with an outdoor jacuzzi beside it and a gym, and a yoga deck sits a 15-minute walk from the villas.

Location and getting there
The hotel is on Calle Perezoso in Ojochal, about 17 minutes south of Uvita on the Costanera and 30 minutes from Palmar Sur airport, 227 km from San José. It is not on the beach: the coast is 4.2 km away and Playa Tortuga about 5 minutes by car. The last stretch of road is unpaved and needs a 4x4, which is what we send.
