Saladero Eco Lodge, on the Golfo Dulce shore of Piedras Blancas National Park

Saladero sits on the shore of the Golfo Dulce, inside Piedras Blancas National Park, in one of the least developed corners of Costa Rica. There is no road in: you arrive by boat from Golfito or Puerto Jiménez, and on the way it is common to cross paths with dolphins. It suits nature lovers, birders and anyone who wants a few quiet days with the forest behind them and the gulf in front.

Why we choose it

• Inside a national park. The lodge sits where rainforest, mangrove, river and sea meet, so the wildlife is still wild and you find it on your doorstep.
• The gulf at breakfast. The beach is right in front, and dolphins in the bay are a regular sight from the Beach House.
• Freshly made over. The lodge reopened after a complete makeover, so the cabins and common areas are newly refreshed.

Rooms and views

Our old page described screened cabins, each one different, set on the beach or with a view of it, and sized for singles, couples or families. Since the makeover the lodge has not yet listed its current rooms on its website, so we confirm the exact cabin, and its view of the water, when we check your dates.

On the property

You can do as much or as little as you like. Days here are for walking the nature trails into the park, paddling along the shore, snorkeling, or swinging in a hammock in the shade while the birds work the garden.

Further afield, the area is known for kayaking through the Rio Esquinas mangroves, a chocolate tour at a cacao farm, a botanical garden visit, guided birdwatching at dawn and a night walk to see what comes out after dark. The kitchen mixes Costa Rican dishes with international ones.

Location and getting there

Saladero faces the inner Golfo Dulce, across the water from the Osa Peninsula. Most guests fly into Golfito or Puerto Jiménez and continue by boat, which is part of the fun, and we arrange the connection so a captain is waiting when you land. Read more about the Golfo Dulce.
