JW Marriott Costa Elena Resort & Spa is an all-inclusive beach resort on Playa El Jobo, near La Cruz in the far northwest of Guanacaste, on the shores of Bahía Salinas. Until its rebrand it was Dreams Las Mareas, so if you stayed here before, it is the same beach under a new name. It is one of our team's favourites for families who want a week where nobody has to plan lunch, and for couples celebrating something who want everything on one property.

Why we choose it

• Dining without leaving the resort. Marriott lists eleven restaurants, bars and a market on site, from Japanese at Namuyaki and Italian at Luciano to Mexican at Santos and seafood at Puerto Limón, plus in-room dining.
• Families are looked after. The Kids Club, part of the resort's Family by JW program, runs nature-inspired activities and creative workshops for young guests, so parents get real time at the pool or in the spa.
• Easy for celebrations. Indoor and outdoor wedding and event spaces by the sea suit a ceremony, an anniversary or a honeymoon.

The resort has ocean-view rooms and suites, including junior suites and family options. For a more private stay, the Griffin Club is a hotel within the hotel, with its own suites, lounges and dedicated service. If the sea view matters most to you, tell us and we will request it.

On the property

Spa by JW offers massages, full-body treatments, express facials and hair, skin and nail services, including treatments for younger guests. There is a fitness center with modern equipment and private cabanas by the pool for a quieter afternoon. The resort is oceanfront, with the beach right in front.

Location and getting there

Playa El Jobo is in the northwest of Costa Rica, so this is a trip that starts at Liberia airport. From the resort we can arrange tours across Guanacaste, from national parks and volcanoes to horseback rides and boat trips, all with a private driver so you never have to find your way on unfamiliar roads.
