Visiting Playa Langosta, Guanacaste
Playa Langosta is located in the northern Pacific province of Guanacaste just south of Tamarindo. Easy to access from the Liberia International Airport (LIR – Daniel Oduber Quiros), Playa Langosta is one of the premiere surf beaches in this part of the country. A much quieter option than its larger neighbor, Tamarindo, Playa Langosta offers a more laid-back alternative for experienced surfers and visitors looking for less crowded beaches. A domestic airport in Tamarindo and a decent road system provide easy access to Playa Langosta. This smaller community will offer you a more peaceful, relaxing beach.

Surfing
The beach at Playa Langosta is well known for its spectacular surfing breaks! With both a left and right-hand break, it is the perfect place for experienced surfers. But beware of coral and rock outcroppings! Surf shops and instructors are available all over the beach. just in case you need equipment or want a friendly instructor/guide to show you the local ropes!
If you don’t feel confident enough to take on the waves at Playa Langosta, pay a visit to Tamarindo first. Playa Tamarindo is famous for its beginner surfing lessons.
Activities and tours
Spectacular National Parks are close by ideal for hiking as well as a chance to see the giant Leatherback Turtles coming ashore to lay their eggs! Las Baulas is one of the bets nation parks to spot these giants and is located on Playa Grande just north of Playa Langosta.
There are also opportunities for horseback riding, ATV tours, mountain biking, kayaking on the local mangroves as well as riding the zip line. Birders will be amazed at the plethora of local species and will also be close to some of the famous wetlands where birding is at a premium at Palo Verde National Park.
Visit nearby beaches
It would be a shame to visit Guanacaste and not see more of its iconic beaches. Next to Tamarindo and Playa Grande, you can visit Playa Avellanas and Playa Negra with its iconic black sand. You can go further north to the Gulf of Papagayo for more calm waters or indeed more south to the Nicoya Peninsula where you can visit gems like Playa Samara and Nosara. For the keen surfer visiting just to explore the waves, Mal Pais and Santa Teresa will also be worth a visit!

Tips
Visit between December and March for the beach: This is the Costa Rica dry season and the perfect time to enjoy the long, sunny days. Don’t forget your sunblock because Guanacaste has some of the fiercest sun in the country!
Visit between August and December for Las Baulas: If you want to spot some turtles, the rainy season is actually the better time of the year to visit. Even then you might be able to have mainly rain-free days since the province of Guanacaste has the least amount of rainfall in the whole country.
Beach hop!: Explore the rest of the Guanacaste shores and if you can, squeeze in some national parks like Rincon de la Vieja and Santa Rosa.
Getting there
Playa Langosta is located just south of Tamarindo at a modest 80 kilometers from the international airport of Liberia. You can rent a car and travel from there or even organize for private of shared shuttles. If you want, you can even take advantage of the domestic airport in Tamarindo and go only a couple of kilometers further south to Playa Langosta.
Dining
For a whimsical mix of dining options from Mediterranean food to Italian, seafood and vegetarian friendly options, book a table at Fish & Cheese. If you want to combine international dining with a cocktail bar and what is known as the most delicious pizza in the area, visit El Sapo Ristopizza Cocktail Bar.
