The Rich Coast
Playa Carate Costa Rica located near the most Southern Pacific of the Osa Peninsula. Don’t be mistaken this is an extremely secluded beach. Facts about Carate Costa Rica
-The most biologically intense place on Earth. Here is the only place in Costa Rica to have all four local monkey species, in one tree. It’s amazing to see the diversity of this area not just monkeys but for all the local wildlife. For example the number of Scarlet Macaws that you find truly amazing.
-In Corcovado National Park you will find the tallest tree in Costa Rica. Named the giant Silk Cotton tree (Ceiba pentandra). This tree is amazing standing 77 meters tall or 250 feet.
-They call it the rich coast for a reason, and that’s because of the gold. Located in the park are many deposits of gold chunks, and much of it has been mined out over the years. Mass gold mining efforts took place some 50 years ago but have been stopped ever since the park’s establishment.
-You have to go to Corcovado! Make sure to make your way down to Playa Carate Costa Rica. And if not here at least come to some part of the Osa. You are sure to love to peace and quiet.
-Where’s the next gas station? Is this the right way? One drawback to being so secluded is well it’s secluded. You won’t find any Walmart or Mcdonalds here.

Sustainability is practically your only option when you are so far away and enjoy off the beaten path Costa Rica; speaking of which, the road to Carate’s intended for four by four vehicles. On your way there you can stop to enjoy lonely beautiful beaches and giant trees. Carate Costa Rica also has a landing strip for those who wish to avoid such a long drive. If you do drive there, be sure to go on a full tank and fill it up every chance you get.
