Surfin’ Safari Day by Day Itinerary
With over 800 miles of coastline, Costa Rica is a surfer’s paradise. Whether you’re an advanced surfer looking for world-class surf breaks, a beginner ready to test out the waves with surf lessons, or a dedicated athlete looking for a challenging surf camp, Costa Rica has it all. My Costa Rica has put together some amazing Costa Rica surf vacations guaranteed to be the best time of your life. Grab your surfboard and get ready for a surf trip to Jaco, Mal Pais and Santa Teresa.
Day 1:
Fly into Costa Rica’s capital of San José to begin your Costa Rica Surf Vacation! Your 4×4 rental car will be waiting for you outside the airport. Rather than hanging around town, drive straight to your first surf destination, Jacó – a beach known for its surf and nightlife. Here you’ll be able to pick up a board, wax or anything else you might need for your trip. Check into the Club Del mar, one of the area’s best hotels located on the southern end of the beach right next to Playa Hermosa.
Day 2:
Jacó and nearby Hermosa Beach offer consistent surf and a lively party atmosphere. This is the perfect place to pick up a board and get used to the warm water and waves in Costa Rica! You can also improve your surfing skills at a nearby surf school or find surfing lessons on the beach in Jaco.
Day 3:
On day three of your surfing vacation package, you’ll drive north from Jacó to Puntarenas, take the ferry to the Nicoya Peninsula to Paquera and then head over to Mal País. The scenery is beautiful, and this trip is an excellent way to see some of the countrysides. Check into Tropical Latino in Santa Teresa, this is one of the area’s best surfing accommodations. It’s close to the waves and features comfortable villas and a pool.
Day 4 – 6:
Days 4, 5 and 6 are for exploring Mal Pais and Santa Teresa. Mal País and Santa Teresa are famous for their waves and relaxed tropical atmosphere. Surf every day, rent an ATV or explore the nearby town of Montezuma. In addition to surf adventures, get in touch with nature in the surrounding national parks and tropical rainforests! Don’t forget to catch a beautiful Costa Rica sunset along the majestic Pacific coast either.
Day 7:
Drive back to San José from Mal País- head back to the ferry in Paquera, cross the golf over to Puntarenas and then take the highway back to the city. You’ll stay at the Hampton Inn for easy access to the airport and rental car agency.
Day 8:
Return your rental car at the airport and take your return flight home. Hope you got some waves worth bragging about during your Costa Rica travels! We can’t wait to see you again on your next vacation!
