The 30 to 40-minute boat ride from either Golfito or Puerto Jimenez can be exciting when encountering a pod of the resident dolphins (spotted pan-tropical or bottlenose), humpback whales, whale sharks or ridley turtles on the way to Saladero Eco Lodge.
Saladero Eco lodge is located in the most undeveloped area of Costa Rica. Animals and birds are still wild at this convergence of 5 differing ecosystems. For example, primary rainforest, secondary rainforest, marine, mangrove and river. For nature enthusiasts, this is the opportunity to view and study some of the most beautiful and sometimes endangered bird species, watch the dolphins directly in front of the Beach House while having breakfast or explore the rainforest for new species of orchids or insects.
You can do as little or as much as you would like at Saladero Eco lodge. Activities that are free of any additional charges include a complimentary tour of the property, unlimited use of our kayaks, snorkeling and fishing equipment, hike our 3 nature trails in the national park, walk the beach or enjoy our 30 acres of tropical gardens. Of course there are less strenuous options such as hanging out in one of our hammocks under a shade tree. If you need more information about the best activities, do not hesitate to contact us!
Optional tours include:
Rio Esquinas Mangroves by kayak, Snorkeling Playa Ballena Coral Reef, Casa Orquedia Botanical Tour, Finca Kobo Chocolate Tour, Canopy Tour, Guided tour of our nature trails, Guided morning and evening Birdwatching Tour and Night Walk.
All cabins are fully screened with comfortable beds and are directly on or with a view of the beach. Each cabin is different and all vary in size and amenities to accommodate the budgets of singles, couples or families.
Included are 3 healthy and tasty meals a day with afternoon salsa/chips and all natural juices. The menu is a mix of Costa Rican favorites and international cuisine. Ask for Paulina’s homemade coconut ice creams!!!
Considered to be one of the wonders of the world, Corcovado holds 13 major ecosystems, beach habitats, and coastal marine diversity. The abundance of flora and fauna overcomes everybody! Baird’s tapirs, jaguars, pumas, macaws, toucans, squirrel monkeys, howler monkeys, spider monkeys, capuchin monkeys, two-toed and three-toed sloths, agoutis, giant anteaters, coatimundis, peccaries (wild pigs), hummingbirds, black hawks, spectacled owls, 4 species of turtles (green, Ridley, hawksbill and leatherback), crocodiles, snakes, lizards, golden-orb spiders, numerous types of butterflies, and various insects are calling Corcovado their home and the list goes on!
Be prepared for a wet landing at San Pedrillo ranger station. The trails snake along pristine beaches into a deep rainforest. Your guide will lead you to magnificent waterfalls and swimming holes! Usually, two hikes separated by a picnic lunch break are part of this tour. The first one in the morning is approximately three and half hours long. Pointing out various wildlife to you, your guide will explain to you the different habitats and answer all your questions. The afternoon hike is normally a bit shorter featuring an ascent to a waterfall, where you will be able to take a refreshing swim!
During the entire tour, please take CAUTION while staying on the trails and listening to your guides! Always be aware of your surroundings! It is not recommended to go behind the waterfall.
